Curry Award for Girls and Young Women

Purpose
This award assists young women who have faced extraordinary obstacles but have persisted in their education.
Award Amount
Grants of up to $1,000 are available.
Background
The scholarship was founded by Eleanor Williams Curry, a well-known civic leader on the Peninsula. It is intended for self-driven young women who require financial assistance and who continue to pursue their education despite significant adversity. Applicants who left school for circumstances beyond their control or who have endured exceptional hardships to stay in school are especially encouraged to apply. The selection panel also takes into account issues such as possible ethnic or racial discrimination, physical disability, or the pursuit of a nontraditional field of study.
Eligibility
- Female applicants between the ages of 18 and 26
- Cumulative GPA no greater than 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
- Clear evidence of financial need
- Current resident of San Mateo County; preference given to applicants from East Palo Alto, East Menlo Park, Redwood City, and San Mateo
- Current graduating high school senior, high school graduate, or G.E.D. recipient; preference for students who attend(ed) East Palo Alto Academy, East Side College Prep, Menlo-Atherton, Sequoia, Carlmont, or San Mateo High School
- Planning to enroll in, or currently enrolled full time in, a two- or four-year college or university
