Introduction In 1999, the family of Ada M. White—led by her brother Lester Moore of Denver—established the Ada M. and Luther B. White Memorial Scholarship to benefit graduates of Montrose High School. The award honors Ada M. White as one of Montrose County’s most successful female business figures in the post‑war period. About Ada M. White Ada Madeline Moore White was born in 1906 in Delta County. After finishing high school she attended Ross Business College in Grand Junction. She returned to Montrose and served as city clerk from 1934 to 1950. Ada married Luther B. White, founded White Realty, and later purchased and operated the White Motel. While attending the University of Colorado she obtained a license in real estate appraisal and became one of western Colorado’s earliest qualified MAI appraisers. She continued working as a broker and appraiser until retiring in 1987. Award for 2026 One nonrenewable scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded in 2026. Candidate profile / expectations In addition to meeting the formal eligibility criteria below, recipients should be hardworking, demonstrate financial need, participate actively in multiple activities beyond academics, and possess the ambition to pursue college and succeed—qualities exemplified by Ada M. White. Eligibility To be considered, applicants must: - Be a graduate of Montrose High School and apply no later than two years after graduation. - Have been accepted to an accredited four‑year college or university in Colorado and intend to enroll in a baccalaureate (four‑year) degree program. - Demonstrate financial need. Required documents & attachments Applicants must submit: - Completed online application - Current transcript from Montrose High School or from the college/university you are currently attending - Resume listing school activities, community involvement, work experience, and honors/awards - FAFSA Student Aid Summary. If you are ineligible for FAFSA, submit a written statement detailing any extenuating financial circumstances - One letter of recommendation - Two essays (each essay no more than 350 words) Deadline All materials must be received by March 16, 2026.
