Background
The Duane & Shirley Hiller Student Athlete Scholarship Fund is managed by the Siouxland Community Foundation, based in Sioux City, Iowa. Family and friends created the fund in 2009 to support local students.
Purpose
This scholarship exists to help graduating seniors from West Monona High School or Kingsley‑Pierson High School continue their education beyond high school.
Who is eligible
- Graduating seniors from West Monona High School or Kingsley‑Pierson High School
- Participation in school‑sponsored athletics for all four years of high school
- Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale
- Intending to enroll at an accredited post‑secondary institution located in Iowa, Nebraska, or South Dakota
How winners are chosen
Recipients are selected based on academic record, involvement in extracurricular and community activities, employment history, and the quality of the submitted essay.
Award
- Minimum award: $500
- This is a one‑time award and is not renewable
Application requirements and submission
Applications must be submitted by the February 1 deadline and include:
- Completed online application (part of the SCF common application)
- Essay
- Official high school transcript
