AGS Scholarship

Introduction
The Alaska Geological Society (AGS) is a nonprofit organization based in Anchorage, Alaska, made up of professional geoscientists and community members who enjoy earth science. Visit our website to learn more about the Society and its activities.
Eligibility
To be considered for an AGS scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be enrolled full-time at an accredited college or university.
- Be a candidate for a BA, BS, MS, PhD, or an equivalent degree in geoscience or a closely related program.
- Pursue a project, thesis, or dissertation whose topic centers on Alaskan geology or a related geoscience subject.
- Have not previously received the AGS scholarship more than two times. Previous recipients must provide the Scholarship Committee with a brief report describing how earlier scholarship funds were spent.
- Not be related to any member of the Alaska Geological Society, nor to any family member of the Scholarship Committee or the Board of Directors.
Required Application Materials
Please assemble the following items and submit them together:
- A completed AGS Scholarship application form (available for download from the AGS website).
- A cover letter outlining your academic and career goals, your interest in the Earth sciences, your financial need, and exactly how you would use the scholarship funds. Examples include field camp, fieldwork expenses, research or lab fees, tuition, or textbooks. If you have previously received AGS funding, include an update on how that funding was used.
- For undergraduates: a project description. For graduate students: a copy of your thesis proposal.
- At least two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic performance. A third letter may be included if it provides significant additional information.
- A copy of your current institution’s transcript. First-year graduate students should also include transcripts from their prior institution. Unofficial copies are acceptable; a formal confidential transcript is not required.

You may submit your complete application package either by email or by postal mail.
