Intro The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans (JCCIA) offers the John Fischetti Scholarship to undergraduate students who can document at least 50% Italian ancestry and who have been accepted to or are enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s program in journalism or media communications. About John Fischetti John Fischetti was a Pulitzer Prize–winning editorial cartoonist whose cartoons appeared for many years in the New York Herald Tribune, the Chicago Daily News and the Chicago Sun-Times. He was widely admired not only for his work but also for his zest for life and generous nature. Eligibility - Must demonstrate 50% or greater Italian ancestry. - Must be pursuing an undergraduate major in journalism or communications (media communications). - Must show academic achievement. - Must be a resident of Illinois. - Must provide proof of acceptance to, or current enrollment at, an accredited institution of higher education. Selection Criteria Recipients are chosen based on Italian heritage, academic record, participation in school and community activities, and the overall quality of the JCCIA John Fischetti Scholarship application. Application Requirements and Submission Applicants must complete the JCCIA John Fischetti Scholarship application and submit the following materials as a single digital PDF: - A 500-word essay; - A recent headshot/self-photo; - Official or unofficial transcripts (high school and/or college); - Proof of college acceptance/admittance or a current college transcript; - Two letters of recommendation; - Any published work (print or digital), if available. All materials must be combined into one PDF and emailed by the application deadline to jcc@jccia.com. Applications submitted after the deadline or not received as a single PDF may be disqualified.
