Recommended Areas of Concentration
We are providing several prompts to guide and inspire you, but don’t restrict your thinking to these suggestions alone.
- The AEC industry is in dire need of more bright minds to create the buildings of the future. Where is the greatest demand for additional workers? Is it on construction sites, in engineering and design firms, or in facility management? What aspects or benefits of these jobs would attract students to these careers? How would YOU pique your friends' interest in learning more about careers in Sustainable Construction?
- Although you are not permitted to use generative AI to write your entry, consider how future AI could expedite sustainable design and construction. Can intelligent bots enhance design and office productivity? How could autonomous robots employ AI to scrutinize job sites for safety hazards or construction defects before they escalate into problems?
- Schools: What is the environmental footprint of your high school? Or all the facilities in your entire school district. How can your school reduce its/their impact? Water, waste, and energy reduction? Installation of solar panels on the roof?
- There’s likely a lot of new commercial construction in your area. How does it affect your community and can it be executed differently to minimize negative impacts? What environmental changes are occurring? Is the natural environment being replaced with hardscapes like buildings and paved areas that don’t absorb rainwater?
- Devise your own idea! Just ensure you adhere to the 4 required sections and concentrate on a problem or opportunity within Architecture, Design, Engineering, Construction, or Facility Management and how advancements in sustainability measures could resolve it.
