The Gates Scholarship (TGS) is a prestigious, final-resort financial aid program for exceptional high school seniors from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The scholarship is granted annually to extraordinary student leaders, aiming to assist them in achieving their full potential.
Grant Details
The scholarship covers the entire cost of attendance* that isn't already funded by other financial aid or the Student Aid Index, as calculated by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the calculation method used by the scholar's chosen college or university.
The cost of attendance encompasses tuition, fees, books, accommodation and meals, and may also cover additional personal expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be:
- High school seniors
- Eligible for Pell Grant
- US citizens or permanent residents
- Maintaining good academic performance with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent)
Furthermore, applicants must intend to enroll full-time in a four-year degree program at a US-accredited, non-profit, private or public college or university.
Perfect Candidate
The perfect candidate would possess:
- Excellent academic performance in high school (ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class)
- Proven leadership skills (e.g., demonstrated through involvement in community service, extracurricular activities, or other pursuits)
- Remarkable personal success attributes (e.g., emotional intelligence, drive, resilience, etc.)
