DEED Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by American Public Power Association
DEED provides three distinct funding opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the energy sector: scholarships for lineworker and technical education, student internships, and research grants for students. Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enroll in an accredited vocational institution, lineworker school, or a two to four-year college/university within the U.S. They should not be graduating within 12 months from the application deadline.
Scholarships for Lineworker and Technical Education
These scholarships are designed to support students pursuing lineworker and other technical careers that are highly sought after by electric utilities. Hear from students about the benefits of a DEED scholarship. Your scholarship application must be sponsored by a DEED member utility. Please review the scholarship requirements, checklist, and application questions.
- Each scholarship is worth $2,000 and is paid directly to the student’s university.
- Spring Application Cycle runs from December 1 to February 15.
- Fall Application Cycle runs from August 1 to October 15.
Student Internship Opportunities
Paid internships offer practical work experience at a participating DEED member utility. Please review the internship requirements, checklist, and application questions.
- $4,000 plus up to $1,000 in travel funds to attend a relevant conference.
- Spring Application Cycle: December 1 - February 15
- Fall Application Cycle: August 1 - October 15

American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) - AABE offers scholarships at both local chapters and national levels in various career fields.
Society of Women Engineers (SWE) - SWE scholarships support women pursuing ABET-accredited Bachelor or graduate student programs in preparation for careers in engineering, engineering technology, and computer science in the United States.
IEEE Power and Energy Society Scholarship Plus Initiative - Power and energy engineers work with some of today’s most exciting technologies, developing solutions to problems that affect our lives and lifestyles. First-year students are encouraged to apply for the PES Scholarship.
American Nuclear Society - Scholarships are available to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students and will be awarded at the beginning of each school year. Evaluation is based upon numerous factors, including academic preparation (GPA and test scores), awards, honors, leadership within the ANS, references, and career goals and objectives.
Southeast Community College - Located in Milford, NE, Southeast Community College offers scholarships for AAS degrees in Energy Generation Operations.
