Dennis Raveling Scholarship for Waterfowl Research
Scholarship Sponsored by California Waterfowl
California Waterfowl presents a variety of scholarships, providing up to $4,000 to college students pursuing studies in biological fields, or contributing towards the expenses of our summer camps.
The Dennis Raveling Scholarship for Waterfowl Research is granted each year to a student or students who are keen to build a career in waterfowl or wetlands ecology. The awards are determined based on the applicant's determination, academic excellence, and the merit of their project. Applicants must be working towards an advanced degree in wildlife, zoology, botany, ecology, or a related biological science at a university.
Applicants are required to submit a ONE-page summary of their proposed original research or management project. If necessary, they should be ready to provide a comprehensive project proposal. The scholarship aims to offer field experience and training in the techniques, methods, and principles of waterfowl and wetlands research and management. The selection of the successful candidates will be made by a committee comprising former students and professional associates of Dennis Raveling.
Two awards will be given:
- 1st Place: $4,000
- 2nd Place: $2,000
Applicants are required to submit a resume and a concise (one-page) study proposal or statement outlining the course of study they require support for. This submission must be accompanied by a letter from a faculty member expressing their willingness to sponsor the applicant and detailing any prerequisites (e.g., the need for a final report or thesis) for earning university credit. The names and contact numbers of two references are also required (at least one should be a University instructor and/or a previous employment supervisor).
The complete application package should contain:
A one-page, single-spaced proposal summary
- Resume
- Statement of interest
- Letter of endorsement from a faculty member
- Contact details of two references
- All submissions should be single-sided and unstapled, please!
