The foundation is committed to supporting the future leaders of the hospitality industry by offering scholarships for post-secondary education. These scholarships are available to students pursuing a career in hospitality and to current industry professionals seeking further qualifications for career advancement. The selection process is competitive, with the foundation's board of trustees responsible for choosing the recipients. All scholarship recipients must be U.S. residents.

Academic Scholarships in Hospitality

We offer financial assistance of up to $2,000 per individual for tuition fees in hospitality-related courses. These courses can be taken either in-person or online at any accredited post-secondary institution within the United States. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or GED. All recipients of our educational scholarships must reside in the United States.

• Destination Management
• Meeting and Conference Planning
• Wedding and Special Event Planning
• Exhibition and Convention Planning
• Meeting and Event Catering
• Foodservice Management
• Hotel Concierge
• Hospitality Human Resources
• and many more

Application requirements:

• Essay response within the application form
• Academic transcripts as evidence of academic excellence
• Current resume
• Digital photo/headshot in jpeg or png format with a neutral or professional background. Please avoid “selfies.”
• Other awards or supporting documents of achievement (optional)
• Letter of recommendation (to be sent separately, see details below)

A recommendation letter from a current or former manager, instructor, or peer who can vouch for your dedication to the hospitality industry is required. The letter must be on official letterhead and include the referrer's full contact information. Recommendation letters should be sent separately by the referrer by clicking on the tab below:

Selection of Recipients

Incomplete applications will not be considered for review and will not be eligible for funding from the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation. All required documents or application requirements must be completed and submitted before the application deadline. Any documents or submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted for that application quarter. Applicants can reapply with a new, complete application in the following quarter.

Application Deadlines

Winter Complete applications must be submitted by February 15

Spring Complete applications must be submitted by May 15

Summer Complete applications must be submitted by August 15

Fall Complete applications must be submitted by November 15
