Clay Electric Youth Scholarship Program
Scholarship Sponsored by Clay Electric Cooperative, Inc.
Overview
Clay Electric’s youth scholarship fund is supported by unclaimed funds that otherwise would have been turned over to the state. A 2003 amendment to the cooperative’s bylaws permits Clay Electric to retain these funds in an educational trust specifically to underwrite the scholarship program.
Who may apply
The annual scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors (public, private, or homeschooled) whose primary residence receives electric service from Clay Electric and who will complete high school at the end of the relevant school year.
How recipients are chosen
Award decisions are made based on demonstrated community service, participation in extracurricular activities, and scholastic accomplishments.
Geographic and category limits
To promote broad representation across the Clay Electric service territory, no more than one student from any single public high school will be awarded a scholarship, and some schools may not have any recipients. In addition, only one scholarship will be awarded to a student representing the private/home-school category.
