Introductory note
Applicants must be Illinois residents with documented disabilities who intend to enroll in a postsecondary program within Illinois (college, university, or vocational/trade school). Candidates are expected to be completing high school through special education services and meet the academic minimum described below.
Eligibility criteria
- Be a resident of Illinois and provide documentation verifying a disability.
- Plan to attend an accredited Illinois college, university, or trade school.
- Have a current Individualized Education Program (IEP) that includes a Transition Plan demonstrating the student is graduating from high school as part of a special education program.
- Maintain at least a C average (minimum 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in high school coursework.
Required application materials
Applicants must submit all of the following:
- Official high school transcript.
- Proof of enrollment in a high school special education program.
- A copy of the official application submitted to the Illinois college, university, or trade school the applicant intends to attend.
- A recommendation letter from a special education teacher or a special education administrator.
