Dr. Roger F. & Anita R. Wendt Memorial Scholarship

BACKGROUND: The Dr. Roger F. and Anita R. Wendt Memorial Scholarship is managed by the Siouxland Community Foundation, based in Sioux City, Iowa. Created in 2011 by family and friends to honor Dr. Roger Wendt and Anita Wendt, the fund commemorates their long service to the local community. Roger served 9 years as a teacher in the Sioux City Community School District and 35 years in school administration, totaling 44 years of service before his retirement in 2002. After retiring he served as a State Representative, with Anita working as his clerk. Anita remained an active community member until her passing in 2018; she and her family always placed people first and strongly valued education at all levels.
PURPOSE: This scholarship is intended to help graduating Sioux City public high school seniors pursue postsecondary studies in education at an accredited college or university.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be graduating seniors from East, North, or West High School in Sioux City, Iowa; possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0; and plan to pursue a degree in the field of education.
SELECTION: Recipients are chosen based on high school academic performance, involvement in school and/or community service, demonstrated financial need, and the strength of the applicant’s essay.
AWARD: One-time scholarship of $1,000 (not renewable).
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Applications must be received by the February 1 deadline and must include:

- Official high school transcript
