Alaska Section Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Society of Petroleum Engineers Alaska Section
The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is offering scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year. Below are the eligibility requirements, application instructions, and important deadlines.
Eligibility
- Graduating Alaska high school seniors: Must plan to enroll full-time in an accredited university for Fall 2026 in an undergraduate STEM curriculum leading to a degree in engineering (including petroleum, chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, or civil) or in an earth sciences program, and must intend to pursue employment in the petroleum industry.
- Current undergraduate students: Must be enrolled full-time at an accredited college for Fall 2026 in an undergraduate engineering or earth sciences program (same fields listed above), intend to pursue employment in the petroleum industry, and meet at least one of the following: (1) graduated from a high school in Alaska, (2) are currently enrolled at a college in Alaska, or (3) are a dependent of an SPE or AADE Alaska Section member.
Scholarship term and reapplication
- Awards cover a single academic year only. Students who remain eligible may reapply each year during their undergraduate studies. A new application and a new transcript are required for every year of consideration.
Application materials and submission
- Application forms may be submitted by mail or by email. All applications must be received by the stated deadline; late submissions will not be considered.
- Official academic transcript: must be mailed (transcripts will not be accepted by email), be sealed and officially certified by the issuing school, and include Fall 2025 final grades. All mailed transcripts must be postmarked on or before the April deadline.
- Do not include additional documents with your application. Resumes, recommendation letters, and other extras will not be reviewed.
Important mailing note
- Do not send transcripts that require signature confirmation — the SPE mailbox is not checked daily and such mail may be returned. If you need confirmation that your transcript arrived, you may email the SPE Alaska Section to confirm receipt.
Notification and payment
- Applicants will be notified of award decisions by July 1, 2026. Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s school in Fall 2026 after enrollment is verified.
If you need to confirm receipt of a mailed transcript or have other questions, contact the SPE Alaska Section before the deadline.
