HGA Dendel Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Handweavers Guild of America, Inc.
Introduction
The Handweavers Guild of America, Inc. (HGA) provides two undergraduate/graduate scholarships — the HGA Scholarship and the Dendel Scholarship — for students enrolled in accredited fiber-arts programs in the United States and Canada. These awards support advanced study in fiber arts, including textile research, textile history, and textile conservation. Selection is based on artistic and technical excellence and/or distinguished scholarship in textiles; awards are not made on the basis of financial need. Annually, scholarship awards total $4,000 or more for the academic year.
HGA Scholarship
The HGA Scholarship is designated for use toward tuition only. Applicants should apply under one of two categories:
- Artistic merit: Intended for students creating advanced artistic textile work.
- Scholarly research: Intended for students concentrating on textile education, conservation, history, or similar research-focused paths.
Dendel Scholarship
The Dendel Scholarship is supported by a generous gift given in memory of the person for whom the award is named. Unlike the HGA Scholarship, Dendel funds may be applied to tuition and, depending on circumstances, to materials or travel expenses (subject to case-by-case approval). Candidates for this award will be evaluated on their skill and commitment to handweaving.
Application Guidelines and Eligibility
