ASBC Foundation Scholarship

Introduction
The ASBC Foundation offers two scholarship programs—Millennium and Legacy—designed to help students from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area pursue four-year college degrees. Below is a summary of the scholarship types, eligibility criteria, how to apply, and the documents you will need.
Scholarship types
- Millennium Scholarships: Sponsored by Alfred Street Baptist Church and the ASBC Foundation. Each Millennium award totals $20,000, paid as $5,000 per year for four years. Two Millennium Scholarships are given each year.
- Legacy Scholarships: Underwritten by individuals or groups that may set additional eligibility requirements and determine award amounts. Annual Legacy awards range from $1,000 to $7,500. Most Legacy awards are one-time grants; a limited number are renewable for up to four years.
Who is eligible
Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
- Graduate from a high school within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area by June 30 of the application year. This includes Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, VA; Arlington County, VA; Fairfax County, VA; Falls Church, VA; Prince William County, VA; Prince George’s County, MD; Montgomery County, MD; and Charles County, MD. (If you are a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church, you may live in other Maryland or Virginia counties.)
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Have been admitted to and intend to enroll at a four-year college or university.
- Demonstrate a record of community service.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Submission of SAT and/or ACT scores is beneficial but not required.
- Show financial need.
Application submission and supplemental materials
- The application itself must be completed online.
- All supporting documents—official transcripts, counselor-signed test score reports, and recommendations—should be uploaded through the online application portal.
- If a school’s policy prohibits sending official documents by email or requires a fee for electronic submission, you may mail those supplemental materials (transcripts, recommendations, and counselor-signed test scores) by postal mail. Mailed documents must arrive on or before the application deadline to be considered.
Documents and information you will need
Prepare the following to complete the online application:
- Personal contact information and details about academics, employment history, extracurricular activities, community service, religious service (if applicable), awards/honors, and the college you plan to attend.
- Contact details for both parents.
- Contact information for a school counselor who will submit an official transcript.
- Contact information for a teacher who will provide a recommendation.
- SAT or ACT score report (if available).
- FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR).
- An essay of 250–400 words responding to one of the prompts provided in the application.
